Are you ready to reveal to your young kids the most magical trip to Disney? A surprise Disney trip is one of the most thrilling and unforgettable experiences for kids (and parents alike), and what better way to do it than with an adorable scavenger hunt (including free printables!) and a surprise basket full of mouse ears, Disney pajamas, and Disney goodies. Plus, we followed the surprise reveal up with a “Minnie Mouse” pizza party to celebrate the Disney news!

In just a few weeks, we’re taking our three girls to Disney World for their very first trip! Our 9 year old and 6 year old are ecstatic to be going to Disney, and our 2 year old is just happy to be included in the endless squealing.

Planning a Disney Trip Surprise Reveal for Kids

Last weekend we planned a surprise reveal for the big Disney news and I couldn’t wait to hop on to Glitter, Inc. to share all of the Disney surprise details!

Never one to do things in a “simple” way, I knew that I wanted to surprise our kids with news of our Disney adventure in a really special way. Getting to watch the magic unfold along the way as our kids set off on an adorable scavenger hunt in our home, and then seeing the joy and happiness on their faces as they discovered that we are headed to the most magical place on earth = priceless.

Timing the Disney Reveal for Young Kids

I should note, we chose to surprise our kids with news of a trip to Disney two (2) weeks before our trip. Telling younger kids too soon can feel like an eternity in their world. We decided two weeks before the big day would give them enough time to get excited about the trip and not too much time that they’d keep asking, “When do we leave?!”

Now that they know the big news, our kids have told absolutely anyone who will listen: “we’re going to Disney!”

Disney Trip Reveal Scavenger Hunt Clues and Signs (Free Printables!)

One idea for a Disney trip reveal is to create a series of clues along a scavenger hunt (with a Disney spin, of course!) that will lead your kids on an adventure throughout the house or yard. These clues can be themed around their favorite Disney characters or movies, leading them to different locations where they will find clues that will bring them to the ultimate surprise.

Our girls pretty quickly caught on that the clues had a Disney theme, though I don’t think they had any idea that those clues meant we were actually going to Disneyworld. (Which made the final reveal all the more sweet!)

To make the scavenger hunt even more special, consider using our free printable scavenger hunt clue cards, that include the clues and instructions for each location along the way. This way, kids can have a physical copy to hold onto and follow along with as they embark on their Disney-themed treasure hunt.

Scavenger Hunt Details

To kick off our own Disney reveal scavenge hunt, we started with the “It’s time for a scavenger hunt!” sign and then handed our kids their first clue card.

That first clue directed them to the next stop where they would find the next clue, and so on.

For instance, the cold (Frozen) could be found on our refrigerator, the dinglehoppers (The Little Mermaid) could be found with the silverware, and the hair brushes (Tangled) could be found on our hairstyling box.

The Big Scavenger Hunt Reveal Location

The clues finally led them to our living room where we had the coffee table covered in the big reveal beneath a tablecloth.

As soon as the kids ran into the living room, Dad pulled off the tablecloth and they got to see all of their adorable Disney swag.

The Sweetest Disney Reveal 🎥

Naturally, I filmed the whole Disney Reveal and Scavenger Hunt, and shared the sweetest clip on Instagram @glitterinclexi.

Disney Reveal Surprise Baskets

What’s a Disney trip reveal without a surprise basket full of magic? Fill a basket or box with all sorts of Disney surprises, such as Mickey Mouse ears, autograph books, character plushies, Disney toys, Disney books, character water bottles, or even a countdown calendar to mark the days until the trip. You could also include some snacks or treats themed around Disney, such as Mickey-shaped cookies or cotton candy.

I had so much fun putting together our own kids’ Disney reveal surprise baskets. I repurposed their Easter baskets and filled them with a collection of adorable Disney surprises.
