Ingredients
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt.
- Mayonnaise. This helps keep the consistency of the sauce smooth and creamy, and balances the flavors well.
- Dijon mustard. A little goes a long way, and adds a little tang to the sauce.
- Fresh chopped dill. The fresh dill is a must, as it really makes the sauce, and tastes even better as it sits and blooms in the mixture.
- A couple cloves of fresh garlic, minced.
- The juice of half a lemon. Fresh lemon juice really adds a perfect, fresh and acidic pop to the sauce.
- Lemon zest. You can mix this in, and add a little extra on top to make the dip extra pretty.
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

What to serve with the sauce
This creamy sauce goes great with seafood such as salmon, crab cakes or cod (it makes a great stand in for tartar sauce). It's also a great sauce for falafel (one of my favorite ways to use it), crudités, or french fries!

Substitutions and Additions
This recipe can easily be adapted to work with what you have on hand. Here are some easy swaps and additions you can do to make this recipe your own.
- Use dried dill in place of fresh, if that's what you have on hand. Dried dill is stronger in flavor, so you would want to use 2 teaspoon of dried rather than 2 tablespoon fresh.
- Add some fresh chopped chives for an extra herby flavor.
- If you don't have dijon mustard, you can omit it.
- Plain greek yogurt is a great substitute for the sour cream.
Make-ahead and storing
This sauce's flavor is amplified by making it ahead. For best results, make it a few hours, and up to 2 days prior to serving. The sauce can be kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
