Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?
Brendle Brennan: Sports are pretty important. They teach a lot of skills useful in life. You have to be dedicated if youre going to be good at them.
BG: Talk about your sports.
BB: I really enjoy football. Thats what I started with. I joined track initially to stay in shape. The atmosphere at football was really exciting. Track can be exciting, especially at meets, but practices can be a little boring.
BG: Whats the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?
BB: In little league football, I had an open lane and was running for a touchdown when my pants fell down. I got tackled. It doesnt get much worse than that.BG: What does your game day routine look like?
BB: When school gets let out, I usually go pick something up to eat or stay at school with snacks packed. I hang out with the team until we either pack up or the meet starts.
BG: Do you have any favorite college/pro sports teams or athletes you follow?
BB: Not much, no.
BG: Youve been a regional qualifier in track three years now, as a relay member freshman year and twice as a hurdler as a sophom*ore and junior. What sort of things have you picked up on having been to the regional level that many times?
BB: You can definitely learn a lot when you go to the regional meets. Everyone there is a lot better than your normal meet opponents as everyone qualified there, so theres not any bad athletes around. I picked up some drills I watched others do at then hurdles. Its just a lot different at that level.
BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?
BB: Nothing outside of sports.
BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?
BB: I play a lot of video games, hang out with my friends and my family.
BG: What are your favorites in reading, movies, TV and music?
BB: Scary movies. I love scary or funny movies. I dont read much.
BG: Are you a person who wants to watch TV shows and movies or stream something from YouTube, Twitch, TikTok etc. or do something else with your free time?
BB: I go straight home. Im usually pretty tired, so any chance I get, I take a nap. After that, I just hang out with family.
BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?
BB: I want to travel at some point. Somewhere thats not inside the U.S.
BG: What is your biggest fear?
BB: Heights. Heights freak me out.
BG: Youve been placed in charge of making dinner. Whats on the menu?
BB: Probably making sandwiches. Ham and cheese sandwiches. Keep things simple.
BG: Do you have any pets?
BB: I have a dog, Murphy, and used to have a cat. We got Murphy to help herd chickens but a fox ate the chickens before we could teach her.
BG: If your house were on fire, all living things were already out and you have your keys, cell phone, wallet/purse etc., what is one thing you would go back and get?
BB: My instinct says my Playstation but everything on there is backed up, so I could get something different like my moms jewelry collection.
BG: A family member has hit the lottery. After everything is paid off and money is set away for the future, youve been asked to buy something you have always wanted to get. What are you asking for?
BB: Id start with a real nice car. Anything nice with pop-up headlights would be nice.
BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?
BB: Awkward. Probably the best way I can think of it. Im different and change from day-to-day.
BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?
BB: Lake Michigan. Its not far and I like the beaches as theyre not salty.
BG: What was your favorite school field trip?
BB: Bradford Woods. Cant remember the year but that was the coolest as it was a longer field trip. We got to stay the night. It was different.
BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?
BB: Very important, especially family. Its hard to do a lot without a family that supports you. You definitely can and people have shown they can do it but it makes a big difference.
BG: Describe your overall school experience both academically and athletically.
BB: Academically its super boring; I dont feel a lot goes on here academically. I love the atmosphere sports have around here. Its a smaller school, so everyone knows each other and knows whats going on in sports.
BG: If your school was to offer a class it currently doesnt, what would you want to see taught?
BB: They have business classes but I feel they could have a more in-depth class. I havent heard much about the class.
BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?
BB: Right now, Im still working out some details, but I was offered to play football at Oakland City University, so I will either do that or go to Ivy Tech and get my pre-reqs out and figure out what Im going to do. I definitely want to go into business.
BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your school work being an athlete?
BB: I wouldnt say it is. Sometimes you get distracted and just put off work. Sometimes people use sports as an excuse but I dont think its that difficult.
BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?
BB: Mr. Hankee is legendary. Going into that class, he lifts up your mood. Hes a really exhilarating guy to have a class with. Government helps you the most as it teaches you things youll actually need to know out in the world.
BG: In the future, once youve established yourself, if you had your choice, would you want to live in the mountains, on the beach or in the neighborhood?
BB: Id want to live somewhere where you still have all the seasons but not a place where it gets real cold. I dont mind Indiana, even if the weather is a bit rough. Somewhere in the middle of the U.S. Living in a small town works.
BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it?
BB: Its definitely going faster. I cant say Ill miss it. Ill miss a lot of the people around here but school itself probably not.
