Returning to reality is the third game in The Smiles Family myth, it is the final game for part 1 of the myth and was used for the finale. In the game's story it follows Matthew, Seth and Clair Smiles who return to Hallam island to investigate, but end getting caught up in DIAM0NDEYES' plans. The game takes place on November 1st and November 11th 2013.

Overview[]

The game was created by The Smiles Family (group). The lobby of the game is in a cave with three portals, the first portal has a small stone version of the Smiles household above it, it takes you to The Smiles Household, the second portal has a small stone version of Dan's Diner above it, it takes you to Dan's Diner, the third portal has Roy Joe's mask above it, it takes you to the finale. When you enter the portal, you are taken to the finale game and from there you can go through each part of the finale allowing you to obtain all the badges.

Walkthrough[]

Note: This section is documenting what happens in the game itself, the events of the youtuber playthroughs and the events of the game are different to each other, the two seem to take place in different canons.

Introduction[]

The game starts with text speaking about how as humans we wish to understand things, that it gives us a sense of comfort, however, some things are better left unknown. It then shows multiple flashbacks of previous events. Nancy and Robert enjoying a picnic on a hill, with the word "love" at the bottom of the screen. A black screen with the word "hate" at the bottom, likely in reference to DIAM0NDEYES' hate for her brother Dan. Robert sitting in his office likely searching for ways to bring back Nancy and Leo, with the word "Despair" at the bottom of the screen. It then says "some things feed off those emotions, it's what keeps them alive" referring to Diamond. With a black screen, it says "one of the victims was a man with two sons and one daughter. He tried to fight back. His home burned to the ground. There was only thing that survived the wreckage.......an axe." The screen cuts to Y/N waking up to a ringing from their phone, the person calling being Matthew, the screen zooms in on the phone before the introduction ends.

The lost heroes[]

The screen shows Clair working at an office in Queens, New York on November 1st 2013. She had just finished another prophesised drawing of an alien-like creature with the earth in their arms. She stares at the drawing as the screen zooms in on it, before being cut off by a cutscene of Seth being at the Berwyn parlour in Chicago, Illinois on the same day. Seth sits down and vents to the bartender about how it was a rough day for him, saying that he (the bartender) just made it better, thanking him. The screen turns to an angle where both Seth and the bartender could be seen, the man he was talking to being revealed to be Lloyd Joe. Seth asks him for his name, which he responds with "The name's Lloyd, Mr. Smiles." Seth then gets a phone call from Clair and tells Lloyd that he should get going, Lloyd reminds Seth that he hasn't yet finished his drink. Despite his alcohol addiction, Seth says that he has already had to much to drink and should get going. Lloyd insists on Seth finishing his drink, annoyed, Seth says no. Agitated, Lloyd's face turns into a bloody smile as he says to Seth "Mr. Smiles. DRINK YOUR DRINK." Frightened, Seth throws the glass to the floor, smashing it, and leaves the parlour. The screen cuts to Matthew on a train with many others myths and hunters, such as Temprist, Jack Cult, 74j, Napolaen, Emmett Cult, Fiddlepat, Akamannah and Sam is twisted. The screen turns to Matthew who receives a call from Seth who says something which causes him are say "Are you serious? Okay, I'll call Y/N, bye." After the phone call, Matt notices that the passengers of the train have disappeared, he tries to call for the other passengers but he receives no answer, it appears it was a hallucination as moments later Matt is seen sitting in the same seat reassuring Seth that he is okay and says goodbye to him.

We're here[]

On November 11th, 2013 Matthew, Seth, Clair and Y/N have made it to Hallam island to investigate the ruins of their home, the screen zooms in on the burned own house, with barely anything left, the 4 jump down a hole in the floor which takes them to the caves.

The caves[]

The 4 head through the caves and use the code "The party never ends" which opens the giant door leading to the maze. The team navigate their way through the maze likely using Clair's knowledge to guide themselves, they eventually find a large white portal which takes them to the battle arena, where they meet DIAM0NDEYES.

The battle[]

The 4 find themselves in the battle arena, spectated by tons of masked souls (many of them likely being the masquerade guests that Lloyd killed in 1936). They see dan tied up next to DIAM0NDEYES, he warns them not to get any closer. Diamond expresses how she is happy that they all made and that it is "such a treat", Dan warns them not to get any closer to Diamond's staff but Diamond quickly tells him that he has said enough. She spits a purple orb from her mouth which hits Dan, causing him to turn into stone and die. Seth runs at her with a gun but she hits him with a ray of light using her staff, she does the same to Clair and Matthew. Diamond tells Y/N to follow her, saying she has different plans for them. She leads them to a pit, informing Y/N that whatever falls into the pit would be erased from existence. She tells Y/N that she needs them to use her staff to drop the Smiles children into the pit, saying that the portal will not activate if she does it herself. When Y/N asks diamond why they should trust her, she reveals to them that she is very powerful and can bring their lost loved ones back. She eventually convinces Y/N to go through with the deal, gives the staff to them and then possesses their body to make sure they stay true to the deal. As Diamond begins to take control of Y/N's body, the spirits of Roy, Lloyd and Robert appear and encourage Y/N to fight off the control.

Eventually, Y/N breaks free from Diamond's control and throws the staff to the floor, breaking it and freeing the children. Angry, Diamond scolds them for breaking the staff, the ground soon begins to shake due to the force of the staff hitting the ground and a pillar begins to collapse on top of Y/N, Matthew pushes them out of the way, sacrificing himself. Matthew is crushed by the pillar and dies.

Flashback[]

The flashback starts with Seth crying at the shore near the house, mourning the deaths of his mother and brother, Mathew walks up to Seth and comforts him, reassuring him that everything will be alright and that he misses him too. The screen cuts to flashbacks of Matthew and Seth sitting in the car, playing video games and talking on the steps to the house. The screen cuts back to the battle arena. Angered, Seth shouts and Diamond threatening to kill her. Just as he is about to shoot her, illusions of his parents appear, telling him not to shoot Diamond, Clair attempts to reassure Seth that the illusions aren't real. Angered, Seth shoots both the illusions with just one shot, wasting the last bullet. Diamond makes two rocks collapse on Clair and Seth's backs, and then begins to take control of Y/N's body. They appear in a space inside their mind, greeted by the gorilla. He offers to lend Y/N his omnipotent powers so they can break free from Diamond's possession, even though the gorilla would be killed in the process. After using The Gorilla's powers, Y/N is back in the real world and proceeds to push Diamond into the pit, killing her.

The End[]

In the end cutscene, Seth Clair and Y/N are seen sitting on the now snowy hill on Hallam island, right next to the ruins of their home. Behind them, the ghosts of the dead members of the family (as well as Dan) are seen standing. The screen goes to an image of Roy's mask, with the words "The end" written below it in fancy handwriting.

History[]

The game was released on October 10th, 2019. Despite this, the finale was released on February 19th 2021. The game was last updated over 3 months ago on July 13th 2023.

• According to the devs, the two main inspirations for the myth's story were the Stephen King books and The Shining
• It is the first game in the myth series to have obtainable badges
• According to Seth (one of the devs) he finished coding and bug testing the game only a few minutes before Albert joined to record the finale video
• The game was released 8 days After Seth's birthday (both the myth and the developer)
• It is the second game in the series to get video teasers, the first being The Smiles Household

• It has the most image teasers out of all the games in the series
